NSS Unit Organizes Essay Competition on “Role of Youth in Democracy” at GDC Marheen

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit, in collaboration with the Youth Engagement and Empowerment Committee of Government Degree College (GDC), Marheen, organized an Essay Competition on the theme “Role of Youth in Democracy” on 03 October 2026.The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of democracy and to encourage them to become responsible, informed, socially conscious, and empowered citizens. It emphasized the message “Be Informed, Be Involved, Be the Change,” encouraging young students to understand their democratic rights and responsibilities and to participate actively in the democratic process.On the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Anupama Gupta, Principal of the College, addressed the students and highlighted the significant role of youth in strengthening democratic values. She encouraged the students to remain informed about democratic processes and to exercise their rights and responsibilities in a responsible manner. The programme was organized under the benign supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Anupama Gupta, esteemed Principal of the College. 10 NSS volunteers and students participated in the essay competition and expressed their ideas, views, and thoughts on the given theme among them: Ist position grabbed by NItika ,Ridhima 2nd and 3rd Sonali Thapa. The event was coordinated and managed by Dr. Arun Dev Singh, NSS Programme Officer and Nodal Officer, Youth Engagement and Empowerment Committee, with the support of Prof. Manu Saini. The programme was also graced by the presence of faculty members, including Prof. Anoop Sharma, Prof. Diksha, and Dr. Reemi, whose participation added significance to the occasion. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to encouraging young people to become informed, responsible, empowered, and socially engaged citizens, thereby contributing meaningfully to the strengthening of democratic values in society.
